WILBUR “BILL” KIMBLE
A great loss to the Kimble and Rhoden families occurred with the passing of Wilbur “Bill” Lee Kimble, 94. He passed away peacefully Friday February, 5th, 2016 surrounded by his daughter and grandchildren as he was comforted in a familiar place, looking out over the calm waters of Lake Waukomis where he and family had resided for many years.
Never one to meet a stranger and loved to engage in conversation he remained, as always, sharp as a tack and would enrapture you in conversation right up to the end. Always a great friend, Father and Grandfather he will be dearly missed.
Born near Adrian, MO and raised in Kansas City, MO on March 8th, 1921 he was the son of Charles and Elva Mae Kimble and the younger of two boys. His brother Dewey M. “Don” Kimble. He graduated in 1938 from East Kansas City High School in Kansas City, MO. He served his country in World War II aboard the USS Colorado as a Seaman First Class.
He married the love of his life Roberta Lee Kimble in 1951. They had one daughter Connie Joan Kimble and resided in Lake Waukomis and Platte Woods, MO for most of their life. Bill was always a servant of others as he participated for many years in local civic organizations Shriners and Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of Parkhill Presbyterian Church for many years. Bill and Roberta enjoyed many years of travel; whether it was flying to many worldly destinations or traveling North America by Recreational Vehicle they never ran out of adventures, or zest for living and Bill never ran out of friends or stories. Upon their retirement Bill and Roberta finally realized their life-long dream of moving to Florida full time.
His passing leaves a tremendous void in those he leaves behind. Bill's family is joyful in knowing that his amazing spirit will move on to grace those that will be so lucky to know a wonderful man. He is preceded in death by his wife Roberta “Bert” Lee Kimble. He leaves behind his loving family - daughter Connie Kimble Rhoden of Lake Waukomis, MO a Grandson Kurt S. Rhoden (Dawn) of Platte City, MO and two Great Grandchildren Paige E. Rhoden and Cole S. Rhoden, two Granddaughters Kara N. Rhoden Thompson (Jason) of Twin Lakes, CO and Lyndse E. Bortnick of Prairie Village, KS and Nephew Don L. Kimble (Gina) of Seattle, WA.
Funeral services will be held at the Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Private family services will be Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Terrace Park Lakeside Chapel. Burial in Terrace Park Cemetery.
