Wilbur Archie Dean, known to friends as “Sonny”, of Kansas City, MO, a beloved father and grandfather passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at Saint Luke’s North Hospital at the age of 76.
Wilbur was born the son of Wilbur L. Dean and Anaise (Crittenden) on October 12, 1940 in Kansas City, MO. Survivors include two sons, Wilbur Christopher Dean and Steven Robert Dean and his wife Shannon; two grandchildren Brady and Nicholas Dean; nephew Brook Nienstedt and niece Barrie Nienstedt.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Karen of 24 years, and his sister Marilyn Nienstedt.
Wilbur was a man of many accomplishments and ventures. He graduated from North Kansas City High School and then attended classes at Kansas University and Pittsburgh State.
In 1964, Wilbur married Karen A. Rowe in Kansas City, MO. Wilbur started his career in the transportation industry at Merchants Delivery. He later became partial business owner of Adcom Express before starting his own transportation company Cherokee Distribution Services, Inc. in 1986.
Wilbur was proud to be a Native American Cherokee Indian. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his grandsons and loved caring for his dogs.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday May 6th, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:30 p.m., both at the First Baptist Church of Grain Valley. 207 W. Walnut Street, Grain Valley, MO 64029
