Wanda Jones

Wanda Lee Jones, 78, of Smithville, Missouri passed away on February 26, 2022.

Wanda was born on October 8, 1943 in Easton, Missouri. She graduated from Cameron High School in 1962. Wanda met her late husband, Lloyd at A&P grocery store while he was working and she was shopping for groceries. The two were married on October 28, 1967 in Kansas City, MO. After moving to Kansas City, she worked at Milgram’s and Missouri Public Service as a key punch operator. Wanda was then a stay-at-home mom for many years before she started working for the U.S. Federal Government in 1983. She first worked for the Internal Revenue Service and then the Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS). While working for DFAS, Wanda earned her Associates in Accounting degree. Wanda retired from DFAS in 2004 as an Accounting Supervisor after 21 years of service with the U.S. Federal Government. Wanda and Lloyd enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively over years. Wanda was extremely dedicated to her family and friends. She enjoyed hosting the family for family dinners and holidays.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. Jones; her parents, Franklin and Ethel Newby; and siblings, Verna Bryant, Lalah Milligan, Bill Newby and Bob Newby.

She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her daughters, Barbara (Todd) Wilson of Smithville, MO and Sandra (Robert) Stevens of Davenport, IA; granddaughters, Rachel (Edward) Karnes of DeWitt, IA and Deanna Wilson of Smithville, MO; brother-in-law, Lloyd Milligan of Liberty, MO; sister-in-laws, Lora Newby of Warrensburg, MO and Kathy Newby of Olathe, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home on Saturday, March 12th with visitation at 10am, followed by the funeral services at 11am. A private family burial will be held at New Salem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
