Virginia Lee (Cox) Basham, 85, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully, Wednesday July 19, 2017, at her home surrounded by family. Virginia was born October 3, 1931, to Thomas and Lottie (Phillips) Cox, in Braymer, Missouri. In 1949 she married Donald Basham. She enjoyed a long career as a grocery store clerk at Schoellers, Just Rite, and Whitefront grocery stores. Her job allowed her to make acquaintances and form friendships she enjoyed long after she retired in 1979. Virginia filled her days reading, cooking, going to garage sales, and most of all she enjoyed the time spent with her grandkids and great grandkids. She and her family very much appreciate and would like to thank the staff at Shoal Creek Dialysis.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, and all her siblings.
She is survived by her son Jim (Blanca) Basham of Kansas City, MO, her daughter Cindy Kocyon of Kansas City, MO, grandchildren; Pam Opoka, Monica McCall, Mike Basham, Cody Kocyon, Jake Kocyon, and eight great grandchildren, all of Kansas City area.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 25, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 at Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO. Graveside service will be at the Cowgill Cemetery on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial contributions go to National Kidney Foundation.
