Vernice F. (Petersen) Evans, 93, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at North Kansas City Hospice. She was born to Pearl (Stewart) and Edward Petersen on February 19, 1925 in Lawrence, Kansas. Vernice married J. W. Evans in September 12, 1941. During WWII, she installed crystals in a radio factory. In 1947, she became a wonderful mother and homemaker. Vernice was an incredible cook and seamstress. She crocheted special afghans for all of the grandchildren. Her special baby blankets were loved by all; and she made a heavenly pie crust. Mom was always in the bleachers for all of us, from keeping score for her son to cheering her great grandchildren on. Vernice was active in her church, Gashland United Methodist Church, and its senior group, Young at Heart. She loved to be outdoors, walking, and even took up swimming later in life, and played her beloved golf well into her 80's.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Riscoe and husband Jim; Barbara Archer and husband Bob; and one son, Jerry and wife Kathleen Evans. Vernice has ten grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren who love her very much.
Memorial services will be at 10:00am on Saturday, August 18th at Terrace Park Funeral Home, Lakeside Atrium. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Evans, Tanner Riscoe, Patrick Riscoe, Calvin Archer, Ethan Hoff, and Randy Kent.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Dementia Society of America.
