VERLA LOUISE TOWLE
Verla Louise (Zimmerling) Towle of Brookfield, MO passed away August 30, 2015 at the age of 91. Verla was born October 19, 1923 in Home City, Kansas to Walter and Gladys (Mitchell) Zimmerling. She worked at Macy’s for many years. Verla was very active with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and was the President of the PTA at the elementary school where her children attended. In the late 1980’s to the early 1990’s, Verla and her husband worked as Red Cross Volunteers spending many nights at local disaster areas helping families, fire personnel and police. They volunteered their time in California during earthquakes, Florida after hurricanes & Puerto Rico when Hurricane Hugo hit the Island. They also helped in Texas, Louisiana, South Dakota and Missouri.
Verla married Lawrence Towle October 20, 1943 in Kansas City, MO and was the oldest of 16 children.
Verla was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lawrence Towle, her parents, 1 sister, Selma Joyce, 2 brothers, James and Charles and a son-in-law, M.C. She is survived by sons, Larry (Carla) Towle of Olathe, KS, Wayne (Vickie) Towle of Georgetown, TX and daughter, Marcy Leipard of Brookfield, MO. Also surviving her include her grandchildren, Mitch Towle of Albuquerque, NM, Jamie (Creighton) Lynn of Round Rock, TX, Scott (Katie) Towle of Austin, TX, Shelly Colstion of Jefferson City, MO, Matthew (Kristie) Leipard of Brookfield, MO, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters, Rose Drake of Alabama, Zena Allen of Independence, Dorothy Landreth of Kansas City, KS, Dolores Foutts of Raytown, MO, Grace Wion of Keen, Texas, Nadine VanCamp of Harrisonville, MO, Theresa Elsinger of Kansas and 5 brothers, Walter Zimmerling, Paul Zimmerling, Mike Simmons, Bobby Zimmerling and Philip Zimmerling all of Kansas.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Red Cross Disaster Services or the American Cancer Society. Services will be held at a later date.
