Venita Lucille Wright, 95, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on December 1, 2022.
Venita was born on February 21, 1927 in Winnwood (Clay County), Missouri, the only child of George and Lucille Fisk. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1945. It was soon after on April 23, 1946 that she married her high school sweetheart, Edwin Wright. Edwin entered into the United States Army in 1951 and both he and Venita spent a few years moving to military bases throughout the United States, most notably to White Sands, New Mexico. Venita spent many years as a homemaker, but she always managed to find herself involved in some extra circular activity like leading a girl scout troop, serving as president of the church’s Women’s Club, or organizing class reunions well into her 80’s. She was the cafeteria manager for 13 years at Englewood West Elementary School. Venita prided herself on having never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation everywhere she went. She also enjoyed reading, bowling, and she was known by her family and friends for being an amazing cook.
Venita is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 64 years, Edwin Wright. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her daughter, Susan Thompson; grandsons, Alex Thompson and Ryan Thompson; and great grandson, Arthur Thompson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Terrace Park Cemetery - Lakeside Chapel - on Wednesday, December 7th, with visitation from 10-11am, followed immediately by the funeral service and burial.
