Velda Combs

Velda Fern Combs, 100, passed away on November 19, 2020.

Velda was born on April 8, 1920 in Gentry County, Missouri near Stanberry to Freeman and Dott Grimsley. She grew up and worked on her family's dairy farm. She also spent many years working as a long distance telephone operator. On May 25, 1940, Velda married the love of her life, Vance Combs. Velda was a natural born leader and was involved in many clubs and organizations, which included leading her local 4H club and Sunday School class. She was a proud Christian and longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Stanberry, MO and the First Baptist Church of North Kansas City. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family. Velda is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vance Combs; infant son, Hilen Deloss; son-in-law, Don Davidson; and infant granddaughter, Marci Lynn. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her children, Karl (Deborah) Combs of Camdenton, MO, Zeta Davidson of N. Kansas City, MO and Quentin (Debbie) Combs of Centerview, MO; five grandchildren, Jay (Anne) Davidson, Melissa (Chris) Ivers, Sara Simons, Jonathan (Heather) Combs and Paige (Bart) Price; 11 great grandchildren, Ryann, WIll, Claire, Abigail, Colby, Kaycee, Skylan, Caxton, Cooper, Carter, and Cailyn; and many extended family and friends.

A private family graveside service will be held at High Ridge Cemetery in Stanberry, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Stanberry, or, the First Baptist Church in North Kansas City, MO.
