Vance W. Cover, 82, of Kansas City, Mo passed away July 10, 2014. Funeral services are 10:00 am Tuesday July 15th at Northgate Baptist Church, 800 NE Vivion Rd. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 169 Hwy & Shoal Creek Parkway. Burial will be in Terrace Park Cemetery. Vance was born in Howell County, MO, at home on the family farm in the heart of the depression. He was the 8th child born to Hugh and Louia Cover.
Vance and his first wife had one son, Gary Vance. Vance later met and married the true love of his life, Deana, on Sept. 28th, 1979. One year later they pledged their love to each other in marriage in the home they built on Normandy Lane, in Kansas City, MO. Vance raised Deana’s two daughters, Chrisma and Amy. He served 22 years in the National Guard and retired as a Master Sergeant. He was very active in Boy Scouts and received the honor of Eagle Scout with his son Gary, and grandsons, Jeremy and Nic. Early on, Vance worked as a building engineer for Ben Franklin. He then became a salesperson for NCR Corporation where he retired as District Manager after 25 years and opened a dealership.
Vance never met a stranger and always had a kind word for everyone he met. More often than not, he also had a story and a joke for them as Vance was famous for these. He was also a member of Northgate Baptist Church.
Vance is survived by his wife, Deana. Children: Gary (Denise) Cover, Chrisma (Micah) White, Amy (Bob) Rothery-Colin. Grandchildren: Jeremy, Nicholas, Chelsea, Cassi, Cody, Aaron, Dane, Eric, David, DJ, Saly, Chloe and Sophia. Great grandchildren: Avery, Jack, Liam, Davis, Skylar and Mason. Siblings: Audrey Hayes, Stanley Cover.
