Valerie Jo Furrow

Valerie Jo Furrow passed away on March 31, 2023 after a yearlong battle with cancer. We know that Valerie is happy to be reunited with her mother, grandparents and younger brother, Dicky.

Valerie was born in Monroe, MI on January 6, 1955. She was raised by her maternal grandparents between Michigan and Florida. An anchoring point in Val’s life was when a coworker introduced her to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At age 21, she was baptized and then served an 18 month proselyting mission in Salt Lake City, UT. There she gained faith, knowledge and relationships that lasted the rest of her life.

As a single mother, Val raised two children in Houston, TX while working as a travel agent. Even amidst struggle she modeled perseverance and hope. She worked hard to give her children a better life than what she experienced.

Valerie was so very proud of her children and grandchildren for all they do. She was able to spend extra time this past year with those she loved while she fought her disease.

She is survived by: children Julian (Jeni) Furrow and Anastasia Furrow; grandchildren JJ, Nicholas, Bowen and AnnaLee; sisters Patricia Gagliano and Yvonne (Rees) Rasmussen; adopted family Don (Myra) and Riley Reed.

Valerie believed strongly in helping others if she was in a position to do so. She volunteered in her church and her community and dedicated countless hours helping those around her. If you’d like to do something in her memory, help a stranger or volunteer in your local community.

A memorial gathering and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from 11-1 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; 5550 N. Jackson Ave. KCMO 64118. The memorial service will follow at 1 PM.
