Virgil Lamar Peek, Jr. of North Kansas City, Missouri passed away at the age of 92 on September 11, 2024.
Lamar was born on August 19, 1932 and was raised by his aunt and grandfather on a family farm in Tallassee, Alabama.
After graduating high school he enlisted in the Army and was deployed to active duty in Korea. Upon his return, he married and began his family with a son and daughter. He spent the majority of his career in hotel management.
His retirement in 1994 marked the beginning of a new chapter where he devoted himself to caring for his wife and helping those in need. Lamar was particularly passionate about volunteering for veterans and hospice organizations, where his compassion and understanding brought comfort to many.
Lamar was not only committed to service but also loved to travel and cherished the time spent socializing with family and friends. His natural ability to engage with others made everyone feel special, and he had a unique gift for storytelling that brought laughter and joy to gatherings. Those who had the pleasure of knowing him will remember him not only for his vibrant tales but also for the love and warmth that he shared so generously.
Lamar’s legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, as he leaves behind a world touched by his kindness, humor, and unwavering commitment to the community. He will be remembered fondly, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Virgil Lamar Peek, Sr. and Lela Annie Hornsby; wife: Barbara Sue Peek; aunt: Evie Hornsby; grandfather: Lee Hornsby; and brother: Robert Peek.
Lamar is survived by his children: Stephan Peek, and LeAnn Carlson; daughter-in law: Becky Peek, son-in-law: Dick Carlson, grandchildren: Jenna, Robert, Erin and Lauren Grace; great grandchildren: Stephan, Margaret, Jeremiah, Violet, Aurora, Benjamin, Ivo, Luka and Marko and former wife and lifelong friend: Iris Roberson.
