Thelma B. Appleby, 99, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away at the North Care Hospice House on Monday, January 15, 2018. Thelma was born April 27, 1918, to Thomas and Bessie (Linton) Johnson, in Coalgate, Oklahoma. Her mother passed away when Thelma was a year old and she and her brother Coleman was raised by her grandparents, Lou and Dock Linton. After moving to Kansas City she went to work for Sears, from which she retired after 27 years. She married William Burton Appleby on December 17, 1946. She was a member of the Faubion United Methodist Church, former Secretary-Treasurer of the KC Masonic Temple, and member of the Independence Assembly #150 Social Order of Berauceant, Worthy Matron four times, Gr. Representative of Indiana, District Deputy of the 22nd District, President of State District Deputy Club of MO., President of State Secretary Club, President of City Wide Past Matron-Patron Club, and a Golden Gate Chapter #58 Order of the Eastern Star since 1957. Thelma was also past president and current Treasurer of Nazarene Shrine #2, White Shrine of Jerusalem, and she also served on various city, state, and National committees. She is past President of the K.C Assembly #4, Independence #150, East Gate #180 Social Order of the Berauceant, and was currently serving as a Recorder of Independence #150, along with many state and national offices. She is a former Elder and Clerk of the Sessions of Grace Presbyterian Church.
She is preceded in death by both parents, her husband of 52 years, her son William Burton Appleby Jr., and her brother.
Thelma is survived by her daughter-in-law Helen Appleby, Grandchildren; William Burton Appleby III, Joyce (Bill) Amador, Linda (Greg) Griffin, and James Appleby, Great grandchildren; William Burton (Michele) Appleby IV, Sheryl Appleby, Emily Appleby, Andrea Amador, and Michael (Rachel)Amador, Great great grandchildren; Tyler Appleby, Lucas Amador, and Nathan Amador, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, January 19, 2017 from 10 AM to 12 PM with Funeral Services immediately following at 12:00 PM at the Faubion United Methodist Church, 7113 N Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO.
