Susie Tsunematsu Searcy passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 17, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Master Sergeant (retired) William A Searcy and her parents and siblings. She is survived by her son, Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Kenny A. Searcy, daughter-in-law, Cynthia Searcy, and granddaughter, Anna Searcy. Shizuko Tsunematsu was born in Sapporo City, Hokkaido, Japan on 16 March, 1926. After World War II she was hired as a secretary on the nearby U.S. Army base where she met her future husband. After dating for several years, they were married in 1955. That same year they adopted their son, Kenny. The family came to the United States in the summer of 1955. Susie and Kenny received their U.S. citizenship in 1959. The family lived in Ft. Carson, CO, Ft. Bliss, TX, Kassel, West Germany, and Ft. Eustis, VA until 1964 when Bill retired from the Army. She then lived in El Paso, TX for 56 years. In retirement, Susie enjoyed senior bowling, Japanese dancing with her Japanese friends, and in her later years the social life at the Northeast El Paso Senior Citizens Center. She moved to Kansas City in early 2020 to live with her son. She passed away after suffering strokes in early January 2023, but she made it to her 97th birthday. Burial will be at the Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
