Stephen Wayne Taylor bravely finished his race and has gone to receive his crown. He slipped from this earth, at home surrounded by those he loved so dearly on Saturday, March 14th, 2015.
Steve was born Nov. 5, 1961 in Mansfield, MO, to Dan E. & Mary (Stoaks) Taylor. He was one of 9 children, with 4 older siblings, 4 younger siblings; 2 older brothers, Kent Taylor and Robert Taylor; 2 younger brothers, Mark Taylor and Timothy Taylor; 2 older sisters, Ruth (Taylor) Younger and Keri (Taylor) Lawson; and 2 younger sisters, Mary (Taylor) Tucker and Laura Taylor Glunt. He was raised with a sense of family values and a love of the Lord.
Steve graduated from Overland Christian High, where he met and fell in love with Teresa (Holland) Taylor. They married on December 26, 1981, and had 33 wonderful years together. Terri and he were committed to each other and to their children: Bridget (Taylor) and Scott Caddell, Stephen W. Taylor, II, and Dylon Taylor. Steve made his home life and his children a priority. He was a devoted father, took time to be with his children, and loved spending time teaching them life-skills like math, science and chess. His hope for them was that they would grow up to be contributing members of society. He also stressed "love God, love your fellow man." His life was an example of the Great Commandment.
Steve showed his dedication to his country through his service in the Marine Corps. His time in military service proved to be invaluable. His training and education were now directed for God, country, and Corps. His goal was excellence and his achievements reflected this. His Bachelor's degree in Business and Electronics Management was attained through Southern Illinois University in a program he began while in the Marine Corps.
Steve's greatest joy was found in teaching. If you met him, you already know that. He was always sharing something new he had just read or heard. Even before it was part of his profession at Siemens Medical Solutions, he derived such pleasure imparting knowledge to those around him. He would have "math races" with his children in place of bedtime stories as they grew. He always said he learned more when he was teaching while he taught his Bible study class. Every moment was a teaching moment, often shared with anyone who would listen, family, friends, and neighborhood children alike. When he was offered the position of Technical Instructor with Siemens, he was in his element. He loved his career and working with bright engineers as colleagues and students. Steve was always seeking, watching, studying, and reading something to expand knowledge for himself and for all around him.
Steve had a love for life and he lived it to the fullest. He was passionate about physical fitness. He loved biking, skiing, hiking, chin-ups, and especially running. He was proud to have completed 2 marathons and had hoped for more. He had great joy in his life and it was manifested in his positive attitude, his playful sense of humor and his ability to smile and sing through any situation, he had a wonderful singing voice.
He thoroughly enjoyed the great outdoors. God's creation was always inspiring to him, whether it was climbing to the top of the highest peak, sailing across a lake, a day of kayaking on the river, riding his bike for distances most of us would consider a long car trip or just "getting lost" in the woods. He found such a connection to his Lord while experiencing the great work of nature. Recently, Steve became fascinated with boating. If you have been in his home, you doubtless have seen the boat he and his son, Stephen, built. He liked nothing better than to get out on the water with his family. He leaves a legacy of adventure and a love for the great outdoors with his children and grandsons, Andrew and Erik Taylor.
Steve's wife, children, parents, sisters and brothers, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends will miss him dearly while here on this earth. He left an example to guide them: live everyday to the fullest and serve God with all your heart.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8NIV
