Shirley Jean Kroencke (née Lykke) passed away peacefully in Kansas City, Mo on February 12, 2017 at the age of 84. Shirley is survived by her children, Vicky (Bob) Judish of Boulder, CO, Gary Kroencke and Randy (Cheryl) Kroencke, both of Kansas City; Granddaughter, Thaya Fares, and 4 great-granddaughters, Audra, Taylen, Jadyn and Brooklynn, all of Kansas City. She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Millie) Lykke of LaMesa, CA and a sister, JoAnn Reed of Cornelius, NC, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Stanley “Bud” Kroencke, and her parents. Shirley was born on June 25, 1932 to Emil and Allene Lykke in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Paseo High School in 1949. In 1951, Shirley married the love of her life, Bud Kroencke. They lived in North Kansas City for a few years, then bought their first house in Gladstone, MO where they raised their three children. After the children were older and in school, she worked for the North Kansas City school district in the cafeteria. Later she began working for the Missouri State Highway Patrol as a Driver’s License examiner and from where she retired. Shirley was an excellent cook and baker and had many wonderful recipes which she served at yearly Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas family dinners. She was an active and dedicated member of the Antioch Bible Baptist Church in Gladstone for many years, participating in bible studies, visiting the widows, shut-ins and AWANAS. And she dearly loved her 3 children, grandchild and great grandchildren who were the special joys of her life.
A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Antioch Bible Baptist Church, 800 NE 72nd St, KCMO 64118 with a visitation beginning an hour prior at 12:00 Noon. Pastor Todd Slagle will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Shirley’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made be made to the Antioch Bible Baptist Church, Northland Meals on Wheels or Crossroads Hospice. Alternatively, please consider volunteering at your community Alzheimer’s, Meals on Wheels, and Hospice organizations, and say a prayer in her memory. The family would like to thank New Mark Care Center, the Gardens at Barry Road, Crossroads Hospice, ABBC, and friends and family for their loving care and dedication during mom’s illness.
