Shirley Lillian Calvert

Shirley Lillian Calvert, 89, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on October 19, 2023.

Shirley was born on February 18, 1934 in Lexington, Missouri. She was the youngest of eight children born to John and Sarah Brown. Before she began high school, her family moved to the Kansas City area where she met the love of her life, Donald Calvert. She married Don in January of 1951, and from this marriage they were blessed with two daughters. Shirley took great pride in caring for her home and family. She absolutely adored children and enjoyed babysitting. When she became a grandmother she was over the moon as she continued to watch her family flourish.  Shirley was a very skilled cook and made the most delicious pies from scratch. She also taught herself to sew, crochet, and quilt. Shirley’s love for the Lord was evident in many things that she did and His love for her was her best gift.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 69 years, Donald Calvert; siblings, Red, Dorothy, Mildred, Glenn, Pete, Alta and Nita; and son-in-law, Greg Reel.  She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her daughters, Brenda Reel and Sherry (Paul) Garcia; grandchildren, Brian (Kristen) Reel, David Reel, Marissa (Eric) White, and Jared (Nicole) Garcia; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Marcus, Carson, Cole and Caylee; great-great grandchildren, JJ and Tessa; and many extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Friday, October 27, 2023 with visitation beginning at 10:30am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00am, and burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to NorthCare Hospice.
