Sharon Colleen Wentz, 80, passed away on May 25, 2019. The second youngest of nine children, Sharon was born on October 31, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri to Archie and Lena Hamilton. She married Fred Wentz on August 5, 1954 and the two soon moved to England during his service in the Army. After Fred completed his time in the military, they returned to the United States where she began working for Southwestern Bell as a switch board operator and supervisor, retiring after 30 years. Sharon was called to help others, volunteering at Nearly New Thrift Store for 13 years, the Muscular Dystrophy Camp for 2 years and serving lunch in the St. Andrew’s the Apostle School cafeteria. Family was always very important to her and she cherished the many years spent babysitting her granddaughters. Sharon also enjoyed traveling, especially going on the Gladstone Seniors mystery trips.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, Fred and her siblings. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her children, Gene (Ellen) Wentz and Kimberly (Louis) Rockford; grandchildren, Ashley (Stephen) Blowers and Marisa Rockford; great grandson Brock Blowers; sister-in-law, Caren Fletcher and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held at the Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery on Friday, May 31st from 4:30-7:30pm, with funeral on Saturday, June 1st at 2pm, and burial following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Community Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family would like to thank Catholic Community Hospice and Ignite Medical Resort for the wonderful care and compassion they provided.
