Sharon Rae Dakin, 74, of Gladstone, passed away April 15, 2020. A private burial will take place at Terrace Park Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church of NKC’s Benevolence Fund.
Sharon was born on May 1, 1945 in King City, Missouri, to Clifford and Lorene (Clemmons) Shultz. She was a graduate of King City High School. After graduation, Sharon moved to St. Joseph with her twin sister, Karen, and began working at American Family Insurance. She married Charles Dakin on December 18, 1966 in King City. Sharon had previously worked as an office manager and HR director for Kmart before continuing her career in human resources with the Clay County Sheriff’s office, from which she retired after many years of service.
Sharon was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of North Kansas City for over 40 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and sewing. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; a brother in infancy, Donald Tipton Shultz; and a sister, Nadine Shultz. She is survived by her husband, Charles Dakin, of the home; two daughters, Kelly (Chris) Martin of KCMO, and Kerri (Scott) Akeson of Lee’s Summit; four grandchildren: Cameron, Zachary, Marin, and Ben Akeson; two sisters, Barbara (Ray) Scadden of Wichita, KS, and Karen (Ted) Rockhold of Highland, KS; mother-in-law, Verda Dakin, of St. Joseph; and other relatives and friends.
