Shannon Strickland

October 19, 1968 — December 7, 2017

Shannon Strickland, 49, of Kansas City, MO died on Thursday, December 7, 2017. He was born in Okmulgee, OK, to Elmer Leon Strickland and Jacqueline Purdy.

The man Shannon Strickland was cannot be put into words. He was a man that touched your life, even if you only exchanged a few words. If you needed love, guidance, a good laugh, an open ear or just someone to share a beer with, he was there. He loved to cook for anyone who was willing to eat. He loved the Oklahoma Sooners, the Kansas City Chiefs and of course, the Royals. You could find him each night sitting on the deck, staring at the stars and listening to his favorite country music song. When not at home, Shannon (a/k/a Papa Strick) was watching Chloe play softball (which was his favorite thing to do), with Kara cooking or having lunch at his favorite spots (typically Tasty Thai), at the casino with Brett (usually for the crab legs), or driving all the way to Oklahoma to see Kate (knowing she loved his home state just as much as he did). He loved his wife Liz more than anything in this world. She challenged him, but he wouldn’t have it any other way (he always loved a good challenge); together they were a rock solid team. He was there for anyone who needed him, without judgment, and always with a philosophical message and a bear hug. He was tough as nails but had a heart bigger than anyone could comprehend. He was a man you looked up to, you would seek advice from and that you admired. His hard head and his strength made him a fighter…and man did he fight. He was an amazing husband, dad, son, brother, coach, mentor, your biggest fan and much, much more. He lived life to the fullest and taught his children to be strong, independent & loving people. It is with no doubt that his legacy will continue through each of them and all of you.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Fuqua Strickland; children, Katie Strickland,  Brett Strickland, Kara Strickland and Chloe Strickland. Mother, Jacqueline Ledford, brothers; Sean Shaver, Shane Shaver, Scott Strickland, Matt Ledford, Robert Ledford and sister Michele McLain.

He is preceded in death by his father.
