Sandra 'Sandy' Auxier passed away on October 4th, 2024.
She was born on December 31st, 1946 to Claire Gordon and Betty Darlene Hurlbert at Holdrege, Nebraska.
After high school, Sandy attended the Lincoln School of Commerce. She married her high-school sweetheart, John Douglas Auxier at Falls City, Nebraska where they had attended high school. After about a year in Lincoln, they moved to Kansas city Missouri. Sandy did some baby sitting while the children were young. Later she worked for Kelly Girl as a secretary for a few years before she was hired as an assistant preschool teacher, a position she cherished until her retirement from Park Hill in 2004.
Sandy enjoyed playing cards with friends and she had many hobbies over the years. She enjoyed planting flowers every spring in flower beds and in hanging baskets. Her most rewarding hobby was cross stitching. She often stitched with friends or went on trips to stitching events. She loved visiting family and friends for graduations, marriages and birthdays. Sandy was a terrific cook and she loved hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas diners and watching football games with family. She loved Chiefs and Husker football. She loved shopping at antique and cross stitch shops along the way during our many trips to Michigan to visit family. She was so glad that she could take our Maltese, Mandy with us on these trips after we got the RV. She loved going to Neil Diamond Concerts. She loved all of the many shows we saw at the New Diner Theater. She enjoyed our TWA retiree lunches. She really loves her new Maltese puppy, Lilly that John got her around Christmastime in 2021.
Sandy once said that she would like to be remembered for being a loyal friend, for being someone who can keep a secret and not gossip, as someone who accepts others for themselves regardless of their looks, beliefs, religion, or the color of their skin. But most of all, she wanted to be remembered for being the mother of three beautiful, thoughtful, caring and successful children and she said It was important to her because her parents, too, had all of these qualities, and what a tribute to them that their grandchildren, who they loved so dearly would also have these qualities.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and adopted brother, Gary Hurlbert. She is survived by her husband, John Auxier, their children, Doug (Melissa) Auxier, Jill (Jerry) Wood and Darrin (Sheila) Auxier; by 12 grandchildren, Christine (Joe) Suriano, John (Renee) Auxier, Nathan (Amanda) Auxier, Greg (Lexi) Auxier, Andrew Auxier, Katheryn (Dave) Bric, Justin Auxier, Julia Auxier, Brady Auxier, Brandon (Kristen) Wood, Megan Wood, Lindsey Wood and by12 great grandchildren, Mathias, Ethan, Daniel, Elizabeth, Sophia and Felicity Suriano; Nick, Diana, Zack and Simeon Auxier and Benjamin and Melanie Wood.
