Russell M. Mathes, of North Kansas City, Missouri made his final stop after thousands of miles and 90 years of life on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Northcare Hospice House. He was born in Elsberry, Missouri on June 20, 1924 to the late Ross A. and Nellie M. Ulery Mathes.
The bus was the source of a lot of happiness in Russell’s life. He met his wife of 67 years on a bus between Bowling Green and St. Louis in 1944 and was a bus driver for Greyhound for 33years; getting to see a lot of our great country. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, bowling, play horseshoes and cards and spending time with family.
He is the loving husband of Dorothy (nee Davis) Mathes; cherished father of David (Jon Shane) Mathes, Roger (Carol) Mathes, Carol Gaye (Ed) Turpin and Jane (Cliff) Cline; precious grandfather of Annie (Corey) Vorthmann, Krista (Matt) Fisher, Kyle Cline, Melody Mathes, and James Turpin. Great grandfather of Sutton, Mason, Mathes, Kaley and Walker.
A memorial gathering and service will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014 from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th Street (Shoal Creek Pkwy & 169 Hwy) Kansas City. Memorial contributions in Russell’s memory may be made to Northcare Hospice or Northland Meals on Wheels both at 2800 Clay Edwards Drive, Kansas City, MO 64116.
