Rex Price, 79, of Kansas City, MO passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011 at North Kansas City Hospital surrounded by his loving family.Rex was born in Albany, MO to Marvin and Edna (Ross) Price. After graduation from Albany High School; Rex continued to farm until August, 1954, when he began work for CB&Q Railroad in their bridge and building department in Ottumwa, IA. This job took Rex throughout the state of Missouri painting and maintaining railroad bridges. In January 1958, Rex moved to Kansas City, MO and started work for Chicago Great Western in the car department. Between 1954 and 1958, Rex met his wife, Carolyn (Shirrell) of Stanberry, MO through mutual friends. They married December 12, 1958 and made their home in Kansas City, MO. In 1968, the railroad merged to become Chicago North Western. In 1984, Rex transferred to Des Moines, IA where they made their home for 10 years. Rex retired July 1994 and they moved back to Kansas City to spend their remaining years close to family and friends. Rex belonged to the National Guard 129th Field Artillery for 3 years. Rex was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and being with his grandchildren. Rex could not deny the passion he had for "going to the country" (his childhood farm in Albany), even if it was just to drive around the land, see an old friend, move some brush – he loved it. Another passion was trains –big or small it didn't matter, he loved them all.Rex was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Price and his parents. He is survived by his daughter Karen (Price) Earel and husband Rick, Kansas City, MO; son David Price and wife Mary Ellen, Kansas City, MO; three loving grandchildren Nicole, Kevin and Hannah and two step-grandchildren Cassandra Earel and Michael Earel.Funeral service is 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 30 at Mount Moriah Terrace Park; visitation is one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
