Ronald Bates

June 1, 1941 — February 18, 2015

Ronald H. Bates, 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at home in Kansas City, Mo., Wednesday morning, February 18, 2015.
Ron was born June 1, 1941, the son of Harold and Iona Bates.  He spent his formative years in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  He attended Ricks college and later BYU, where he met and married Martha Walker, his wife of 50 years.
Ron’s life was one of service.  He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central States Mission.  After graduating from BYU with a degree in Accounting, Ron then served his country in the Army and was a Viet Nam veteran where he received the Bronze Star.  He then served in the Air National Guard in St. Joseph, Missouri and retired as a Lt. Col after 28 years.
After retirement, Ron served in various capacities for the Veterans of Foreign Wars and continued his service in his Church.
Ron is survived by his wife, Martha Walker Bates, children Ronald G. Bates and his wife Carolee, Robert S. Bates and his wife Amy, Rebekah Lee Eilers and her husband Jay, seven grandchildren, Caleb Bates, Tyler Bates, Delaney Bates, Camryn Bates, Haley Bates, Ethan Eilers and Evan Eilers.  Also surviving is one brother, William C. Bates.  He was preceded in death by his brother Larry Ray Bates and his parents.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday February 24th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2700  Ensign Dr., Platte City, Mo. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Monday at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 169 Hwy. & Shoal Creek Parkway. Burial will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
