Roger Ellsworth Mast

Roger Ellsworth Mast, of Gladstone, MO, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 30, 2025, at the age of 93. Roger was born July 23, 1931, in Cedar Falls, IA, to Harry and Ruth (Rittgers) Mast. He graduated in 1949 from Janesville High School in Janesville, IA, and obtained a teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI). 

Roger taught school in Winthrop, IA, before joining the U.S. Marine Corp in 1951, serving for 3 years, including a tour in Korea. The Marines sent him for training in Kansas City, MO, where he met Donna Mae Cook who he married in 1954. He attended Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, MO, to become a certified electronic technician. Most of Roger’s career was with the FAA working as a radar technician at the downtown and KCI airports in Kansas City, MO. Roger had over 45 years of government service before retiring in 2001. 

Roger was a longtime member of Sherwood Bible Church (formerly Central Bible Church) in Kansas City, MO, and volunteered with the City Union Mission in several of their ministries. He was well-known for generously donating his time doing home repairs or repairing electronics for anyone in need. 

Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Donna Mast, his brothers Richard, Harold, and Noel Mast, and his grandson Cosby Mast. Roger is survived by his brothers Clarence (Teresa) Mast, Wayne Mast, and David (Lois) Mast, sister, Harriet (Douglas) Sharp, and sister-in-law Carol (Noel) Mast, and by his daughters Marilyn (Paul) Mast Hewitt and Marlene (Bob) Webb, his son Paul (Ana) Mast, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Sherwood Bible Church, 4900 N. Norton Ave. Kansas City, MO, on Saturday February 8, 2025, with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Terrace Park Cemetery, 801 NW 108th Street, Kansas City, MO.
