Robert Shawver

December 15, 1933 — November 8, 2021

Kansas City

Robert (Bob) L. Shawver passed away peacefully on Monday, November 8, 2021. Visitation will be Thursday, November 11, 2021, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Terrace Park, 801 NW 108 th Street, Kansas City, MO 64155. Funeral services are private. Bob was born on December 15, 1933, in San Francisco, CA to Ralph and Iva Starr Shawver. He moved to Sedalia, MO at a young age and graduated from Smith Cotton High School where he lettered in football, baseball, basketball, and track. He played minor league baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals before settling in Kansas City, MO. He worked as a structural steel detailer prior to co-founding his own company, Shawver-Price. An avid reader, Bob enjoyed bowling and playing golf. In his spare time, he coached young athletes in baseball and football. Always deliberate and focused, he challenged them to be their best. His first joy was watching his son’s sporting accomplishments. His greatest joy was his granddaughters. Whether it was reading stories to the girls when they were young, bringing them LaMar’s Donuts on Saturday mornings or attending their activities and sporting events, Bob was always there to cheer them on. He loved a good martini, fine red wine, good food, chocolate, and the music of the Bee Gees. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Lee Shawver. Bob leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Helen Wilson Shawver, his son Kirk B. Shawver and wife Joanna; granddaughters Samantha Shawver and her fiancée Charles Johnson and Carly Shawver and her husband, Kyle Wadlow, a sister, Helen Long of Branson, MO and sister-in-law Ethel Zeller of Venice, FL and nieces and nephews. We will miss the famous Bob quotes…”If you don’t untie your shoes, you are grounded for two weeks” “Deason! Reynolds! Shawver! Spread out!” “Atta Girl!” Thank you to the staff and nurses at Oxford Grand Shoal Creek for all their care and attention over the past few years.
