Robert F. “Bob” Mitchell, 79, of Smithville, MO, died at NorthCare Hospice House on Sunday, September 17, 2017. He was born February 18, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Frank E. Mitchell and Mahala (Fisher) Mitchell.
Bob had an amazing talent with his hands. He worked for TWA for 34 years as an engine mechanic and inspector. He spent countless hours as part of the Crane Racing Team, helping and mentoring, as well as building engines for the team. His other passion was rebuilding classic Chevy cars and engines. He proudly served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Platte Woods United Methodist Church for 20 years and was a shuttle bus driver during its recent Worship Center addition. Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of being married for 56 years.
He was the dear husband of June (Smithers) Mitchell, brother, Frank (Butch), and sister, Jenny, brother-in-law of Ella, Clarence, Wilma, Rosalie and Elaine. He was a dear uncle, cousin, neighbor, and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his sisters Donna, Helen and brother, Jim. A time of remembrance will be held at Platte Woods United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 1, with visitation from 6-7 p.m. and a service following.
