Robert Gene Kennedy passed away peacefully at home on May 20th with his beloved wife of 44 years, Virginia, and family by his side. At the time of his death he was 91 years old, an age he was proud to have reached.

Born on May, 3 1926 in Hammond Indiana to Orville J. and Nina (Crumbliss) Kennedy, he was 2nd eldest of 6 children. He served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. He worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad for 19 years and for Minnesota Bait for 20 years. After he retired he worked for Walmart in the automotive dept for 18 years, and at age 84, again "retired" only because of his progressive vision loss.

He was the proud father of Linda (Bruce) Roberson of Kansas City, MO, Mike Kennedy of Blue Springs, Steve (Linda) Kennedy of Independence, MO, Sandy Hallet of Lee’s Summit, MO, Bill Kennedy of Overland Park,KS and step daughters Laurel (Norm) Ashcroft of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Candace (John) Howe of Olathe, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eldest brother Kenneth, younger brother Orville Jefferson “Jeff” Kennedy, younger sister Genevieve “Lynn” Kennedy Brown, and younger sister Eleanor Louise Kennedy Zurbuchen. He is survived by his younger brother Jack Kennedy (Janice), Grandchildren Sam and Kenzie Hallett, Morgan Kennedy, Jordan, Olivia and Garrett Dunseth, Justin and Rip Howe, Leigh Perry, Meredith Roberson, and Erin Michelle Kennedy. Additionally he was blessed with great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bob was greatly loved, and children were one of his greatest pleasures. He left us all with a legacy of honor, humor, and uncommon courage.

Visitation will be Friday, May 26, 2017 from 9:00 AM with Funeral Services immediately following at 10:00 AM at Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO. Burial to follow in Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial contributions go to The American Heart Association or The American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
