Robert James Helvey, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Liberty Health and Wellness Center. Robert was born October 28, 1929, to Clarence Albert and Nora E. (Braman) Helvey, in Smithville, MO. He was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Smithville High School and was an “All American Football Player” . He married Phyllis Leeseberg on May 31, 1952 in Smithville, MO. Robert was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. After the war he worked at Fred O’Fats Inc. in Kansas City until his retirement. He enjoyed sports and spending time at the cabin and the farm in Minnesota with his family. Robert was a Christian and also a Charter member of the King of Kings Lutheran Church in Kansas City, North. His church family was very special to him and he especially enjoyed the Bible Lunch Group. Robert was a kind and gentle man and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death my both parents, a brother C.A. Helvey, and three sisters; Creola Senkfeil, Mildred Hambley, and Opal Porter.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, two daughters ; Lisa and Susan, his sister; Anna Deloris Moreland of Smithville, brother and sister-in-law; Richard and Kathleen Leeseberg, of Nevis, Minnesota, sister-in-law Elizabeth Jenkins of Carson City, Nevada, and Nancy Leeseberg of Park Rapids, Minnesota. Special relatives Shari and Ralph Sanquist, of Park Rapids, Minnesota, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10 AM with Funeral Services immediately following at 11:00 AM, at the King of Kings Lutheran Church LCMS 1701 NE 96th St, Kansas City, MO 64155. Burial to follow in Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to King of Kings Lutheran Church. Share online condolences at TerraceParkFuneral.com.
