Robert Lee Fry, 85, of Pleasant Hill, MO passed away on December 27, 2020 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri.
Robert was born on March 10, 1935 in Fairfax, Missouri to Hubert and Sidney (Wallace) Fry. Robert was the oldest of six children. The family moved to La Monte, Missouri to farm a few years later. Robert attended La Monte Schools.
Robert always knew he wanted to join the Navy. On January 5, 1953, at the age of 17, he was inducted. He trained as a machinist mate at Camp Elliott in San Diego, California. He was transferred to Norfolk, Virginia where he was assigned to the USS Everglades. He served during the Korean War and travel to many countries.
After discharge from the Navy, Robert returned home and worked at Town and County Shoe Factory. In 1958, Robert started working at Independence Power and Light. He also worked at power plants in Arizona and California before returning to work at Kansas City Power and Light. Robert was one of the first employees at the Iatan Power Plant in Weston, Missouri. Robert retired from Kansas City Power and Light in 1994.
During his retirement, Robert enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids, watching old western movies (John Wayne and Gene Autry were his favorites) and trying to learn to play the guitar.
Robert was involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Weston, Missouri, where he was past commander. Robert was also a Mason and belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Weston, Missouri and on Barry Road in Kansas City, Missouri. Robert served in many offices while in the lodge. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
Robert met the love of his life, Aleta Mae Chevalier, in the second grade at LaMonte Elementary School. They were often the ring leaders of “trouble” at school. After Robert returned from the Navy, they started dating. They were married on June 25, 1956. They were married for 64 ½ years. To this union, three children were born: Ronald Eugene Fry, Rhonda Renee Fry and Roxana Yvonne Fry.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Hubert and Sidney Fry; one brother – Herbert Fry; one sister – Wilma Zien; two children – Ronald Fry and Roxana Fry Wakefield; and three grandchildren – Alisha Fry, April Fry and Ronald Fry II.
He is survived by his wife, Aleta, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and David Kasper of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; three sisters – Goldia (Delmar) Fisher of La Monte, Missouri; Evelyn Mullineaux of Sweet Springs, Missouri and Susan Fry of Sedalia, Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Carol Fry of Warsaw, Missouri. Three grandchildren and three great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He is also survived by his four-legged companion, Toby.
Funeral/Memorial/Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 2:00 pm with visitation 1 hour prior to the start of the service at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th Street, Kansas City, MO 64155. There will be Masonic Rites performed during the service. Burial to follow with military honors in Terrace Park Cemetery adjacent to the funeral home.
