Robert Wayne Evans, 68, passed away on November 24, 2024, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 29, 1955, Rob dedicated his life to his family, his faith in Jesus Christ, and a passion for sports radio broadcasting.
A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Rob is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Kathy Joan Cooper Evans; his daughter, Melissa Joyce Arnold; son-in-law, Nicholas Arnold; and granddaughter, Emily Arnold. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce Ann and Wayne Evans, aunt and uncle, Doris and Bill Hayes, and grandparents, Delores and Ray Matney.
Rob's professional career was marked by his work in radio, where he served as a DJ and an accomplished sports broadcaster. Rob won the Best Play-by-Play award from the Missouri Broadcasters Association from 2015 to 2020. Additionally, in October 2024, he was inducted into the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame. Known for his self-deprecating humor, he often joked that he had "a face for radio" - a testament to his warm personality and ability to connect with audiences through sound alone.
Throughout his life, Rob was guided by two unwavering principles: his deep commitment to following Jesus in both his character and conduct and to loving his family as Jesus loved him. These core values shaped his character and influenced everyone who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Smithville Family Worship Center to celebrate Rob's life, honor his memory, and reflect on his profound impact on everyone who knew him.
