Richard Weimer

March 18, 1931 — October 25, 2022

Richard Jake Weimer age 91 opened his eyes in his heavenly home leaving behind the family he dearly loved:  His sister, Marilyn Joyce Degnan, children; Steven Richard Weimer (Michelle), Rhonda Joyce Weimer (Kate), Juliene Marie Floyd (Chris), and Jason Derek Weimer.  Eight Grandchildren: Dustin Weimer, Jacob Weimer, Darren Floyd, Ryan Floyd, Tiffany Floyd (Smith), Derek Weimer, Austin Weimer & Samantha Weimer.  Seven great grandchildren: Elias and Coen Weimer of KCMO, Dakota and Sydney Weimer of KCMO, Hayden and Lincoln Floyd of KCMO, and Gentry Smith of Overland Park KS.  He also was blessed with many in-laws, nephews, nieces, friends and great neighbors during his lifetime.  Rich was preceded in death by his parents; Jake (1938) & Pauline Weimer (1999), wife; Janice Marie (Danfield) 2009, & grandson; Darren Richard Floyd (2004).

Rich will be remembered as a loyal, humble, soft spoken, hardworking, good, man of high integrity.  He worked for IML Freight for 34 years and then retired from Gully Transportation which ironically moved into the same office/terminal after IML closed.  He served in Korea Company D, 27th Infantry.  Two years after returning home he married the love of his life, Janice and was married 54 years.  They moved from Colorado to settle in KC and raise their four children.

Rich was still living independently and playing cards at least once a week with his family.  He has always believed in staying active and was an avid golfer after he retired.  He was strong competition at Hodge Park Men’s league into his upper 80’s.  He was safely driving and taking friends to church or shopping for great grandchildren’s birthday gifts until the night he fell on September 1, 2022.  He had recovered from other falls including the fracture to his hip that moved him out of his home in March 2021.  He had worked to regain full mobility after various surgeries and a previous fall.  He and his family expected the same this time, but his body didn’t agree.  His determination had met it’s match this time.   After a short time on hospice, he peacefully left this earth.  March 18, 1931 to October 25, 2022
