Richard A. Oliver, 78, of Gladstone, passed away April 23, 2020. Local services will be private. Inurnment will take place at Kermit City Cemetery, Kermit, TX, at a later date.
Richard was born on March 14, 1942 in Smith Mills, Kentucky, to Eddie Lee and Julia (Onan) Oliver, and grew up in Henderson, Kentucky. He moved to Kermit, Texas, in 1963 and began his career working in the oil fields. He met the love of his life, Virginia Grogan, in February of 1965 and they were married on May 24, 1965. After retirement, they lived in the Dallas area and later moved to Gladstone.
In his spare time, Richard enjoyed making and collecting knives and was a member of Linden Baptist Church in Gladstone.
He was preceded in death by his parents and many brothers and sisters. Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia, of nearly 55 years; two daughters, Donna Oliver of Gladstone, and Marshella Powell (husband, Jim) of Oklahoma City; three grandsons: Clayton Resz, Matthew Resz, and Jacob Powell; a son-in-law, David Resz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was a genuinely good man and a hard worker. Although he was raised in poverty, he pulled himself up from those circumstances and took care of his wife and daughters, who were never lacking for anything. Richard tried to leave everybody laughing, and mostly succeeded. He loved with all of his heart and will be dearly missed.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, or the charity of the donor's choice.
