Richard Grove

July 20, 1936 — March 6, 2015

Richard A. Grove “Rags”, 78 of Kansas City died at home on Friday, March 6, 2015.  He was born in Kansas City, Kansas on July 20, 1936 to the late Elmer R. and Hazel (Rentschler) Grove.

He had a great sense of humor enjoying life to the fullest.  He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam and remained in the reserves until retiring with 25 years of service. He worked for TWA as a mechanic for more than 30 years before retiring.   Richard was not one to sit idly by, he was a Mason and spent several years volunteering at Liberty Hospital where he worked the information desk and got to “tell people where to go”.  In his younger years he played the clarinet, his sister, daughter and great-niece also played the same clarinet.

Rags was the loving Dad of Richard Grove II, Karen Grove, Amy (Scott) Gordee and David Grove; cherished brother of Helen (Herb) Klemp and the late Dorothy Atkinson and Connie Loethen. He is the dear grandpa of 7 and great grandpa of 9.  He was preceded in death by two wives; Marjorie in 1991 and Mary in 2001. He will be missed by many friends and extended family members.

Visitation will be, Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 10-11 AM at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO. Funeral service with military honors will be Saturday at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be private at Terrace Park Cemetery.
