Richard Edward Adamek, 85, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Thursday October 19, 2017, with his family by his side. He was born August 4, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Lewis and Florence (Leahy) Adamek. Richard joined the Air Force in 1952, and served during the Korean War. On November 20, 1954 he married Mildred Ohmes, the love of his life, in Humbolt, Kansas . Richard was a loving father and husband, who was known for his big heart, love for children, and having fun with everyone he met. All the children in the neighborhood were made to feel welcome in his home. He was a Scout Leader for many years, and an honorary warrior of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He enjoyed watching old movies and testing all the new gadgets before buying them for the kids. Richard retired from TWA after 40 years of service as a jet engine mechanic. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also a member of the St. Therese Parish for over 59 years.
Richard is preceded in death by both parents, his wife of 62 years, a brother Lewis Adamek Jr., and a sister Roberta Prokop.
He is survived by his children Linda Burton, Elaine (Hal) Porter, Gary (Beth) Adamek, Richard (Donna) Adamek Jr., and Michael (Donna) Adamek; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, brothers Tom and Jerry Adamek, and sisters; Carol Wedell and Florence Fitzgerald, also a sister-in-law Yvonne “Bonnie” Ohmes and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 6-8 PM with a Rosary Service at Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated Friday, October 27, 2017, at 11:00 AM at St. Therese Catholic Church; 7207 MO-9, Kansas City, MO 64152. Interment will follow in Terrace Park Cemetery.
