Rebecca Catlin passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 47. Born on November 24, 1977, in the small western plains of Colby, Kansas, she arrived in Kansas City, Missouri, by way of Wyoming, during the scorching hot summer of 1980.
Beginning school with the Kansas City, Missouri School District, Rebecca's family moved from the historic Northeast neighborhood of KC to the Northland area, where she graduated from Oak Park High School. She showed an affinity for languages early on; taking French lessons from her dear friend, Ms. Stelmach, and French and Spanish classes in school. While at OPHS, Rebecca began working at the North Oak Branch of the Public Library through her COE class. She continued working at the library through college, where she played a vital role in fostering a love for reading and learning within her community. Her passion for learning was evident in every interaction she had at the library, including special children's programs and holiday events.
An aluma of Park University, Rebecca graduated cum laude, with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration. Her keen interest in justice was evident in her choices of tv viewing and Youtube browsing.
Rebecca was also a cherished member of the Northland Cathedral Assembly of God, where she found fellowship, love and support in her church family. She formed deep connections with others, demonstrating lifelong loyalty to those she held dear; making friends easily, by connecting online and by phone in later years.
Miss Catlin had an appreciation for animals, particularly her own cats and dogs, reflecting her ability to connect with all creatures great and small.
Rebecca Jan Catlin will be remembered as a lady who spoke her mind, enjoyed a great conversation; and, above all, loved God.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Ruth Catlin; as well as her brother, James Catlin. She is survived by her sister, Ann (Marc) Govier, and nephew, Avery Govier; as well as many other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northland Cathedral Pastoral Care Ministry.
