Raymond “John” Sullivan, 87, passed away on May 30, 2019.
John was born on October 7, 1931 to Raymond and Lily (Rayner) Sullivan in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating high school John enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served for 20 years. While in the Air Force, John served in both the Vietnam war and the Korean war. He was shot at during battle and survived two plane crashes. He served his country proudly by working and training others as an aircraft mechanic. His service allowed him the opportunity to travel all over the world and make many lifelong friends. After retiring from the Air Force as a Technical Sergeant he joined the Army Corps of Engineers as a boat captain, serving another 20 years. John enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. John joined the Freemasons in 1959 and actively served his masonic lodge for over 59 years. He spent over 60 years living in Florida where he raised his family with his wife, Gwendolyn. He lost his beloved wife Gwen on February 7, 2015. He returned to his hometown of Kansas City in 2017. There he was reunited with his friend of 64 years, Barbara. They found love again and were married on December 30, 2017.
John is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gwendolyn; son, Mike Sullivan; step-son, William “Billy” Sullivan; and brother, William “Bill” Sullivan.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sullivan; children, Stephanie (David) Wartenberg, Ernie (Angela) Sullivan and Stephen (Jamie) Sullivan, daughter-in-law Marie Sullivan; stepchildren Terry Sullivan and Jenny (Scot) Cramer; brother, Bob (Margaret) Sullivan, and sister-in-law Dee Sullivan. John was also loved by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held in Kansas City on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 6:00pm, with visitation beginning an hour prior. A funeral service and burial will also take place in Panama City, Florida on Sunday, June 9th at 2:00pm at Kent Forrest Funeral Home.
