Raymond Ollie Ellis, 81, of Cameron, Missouri went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 1, 2023.
Raymond was born on November 26, 1941 in Keytesville, Missouri. He was one of eight children born to Patrick and Martha Ellis. As a young boy, his family moved to the Kansas City area. As someone with a naturally hard work ethic, Ray never liked sitting still. He held various jobs, including working at a shoe store, grocery store, and Cessna aircraft, but his longest career was in highway construction which he had retired from as a manager. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to diners – especially Dino’s Diner in Cameron, travelling the back country roads, and collecting coins and $2 bills, which he would generously give away. Ray met his wife, Joyce, while she was volunteering at a hospice house and the two were married on June 14, 2013 in Kansas City. Three years later, they moved to Cameron, Missouri where they have resided for the past seven years. Ray loved seeing new sights and made great memories by taking his family on vacations to places like Silver Dollar City, California, Montana, and South Dakota, but before they hunkered down for the night, he always made it a point to inspect the hotel room before agreeing to stay.
He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 10 years, Joyce; children, Denton (Mary) Ellis, Shelly (Darren) Mansil, Terry (Stacy) Ellis, Kimberley (Bill) Ralls, Desdia (Kelly) Clarke, and John Billups; grandchildren, Josh, Jacob, Taylor, Jessica, Rachel, Kayla, Sean, Chas, Larry, Samantha, Felecia, Adam, Becky, Tavia, Baylen, Hunter, Tyler, Anne, Christina, and Ryan; great grandchildren, Zoey, Thomas, Callie, Silvie, Caylen, Emris, Gunner, Nadalie, Kenzy, Domonic, Ramie, and one on the way; siblings, Patsy Gill and Judy Turner; his beloved pup, Abby; and many extended family and friends.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Martha Ellis; wife of 42 years, Theresa; and siblings, Charles “Buck” Ellis, Jim Ellis, John “Jaybird” Ellis, Shirley Asbill, and Jeanette Nevins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home on Thursday, October 5th, with visitation beginning at 11am, followed by the funeral service at 12pm, and burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the University of Kansas Cancer Center.
