Ray Dowell Kavanaugh, 90, of Gladstone, MO passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Thursday, November 4, 2010 with a memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday, November 5 at the First United Methodist Church, 2100 Howell St. in North Kansas City. Ray was born to Charles C. and Rebecca Elizabeth (Dotson) Kavanaugh on November 13, 1919 in Tinney Point, MO. Married on February 7, 1943 to Dorothy Louise Riegel he made family his number one priority and together they focused their lives on building a loving home. His three children, Leslie L. Kavanaugh of Kansas City, MO; Sharon L. Kavanaugh of Kansas City, MO; and Janet L. (Luke) LeTourneau of Overland Park, KS remember him as a larger-than-life caregiver capable of fixing anything and instilling in them a lifelong respect for others.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, North Kansas City where he will be remembered for his support and caring nature. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and visiting with all those he met.Ray was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and three brothers, Edward C., Archie L. and C. Francis. In addition to his children, Ray is survived by his sisters, Doris May (Ivan) Peters, Ina Faye Trosper, and Zona Marie "Skip" (Floyd) Dunn, and many nieces, nephews and their families.Ray was an honest and plain-spoken provider who helped those in need and never forgot his humble beginning.
