Randall McPike

Randall Lee McPike, 75, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at North Kansas City Hospital.  He was born on Aug. 22, 1943, to Dorothy R. and James R. McPike in Craig, Mo.  At the age of 4 he moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he lived for the remainder of his life.  Randy graduated from East High School where he met his wife, Vera.  In March of 1965 they married and started teaching careers. He received his Bachelors degree from University of Central Missouri, Masters degree from UMKC, and Specialist degree from University of Central Missouri.   Randy taught mathematics at Antioch Jr. High for 15 years and at Oak Park High School for 17 years, retiring in 1997.  He loved teaching math and had a way of “getting it across” as so many former students have said.  Often with corny jokes, often with a little loving intimidation, it seemed to work!

Following retirement, Randy increased his lawn care business and had an amazing crew of workers who became close friends.   The camaraderie the crew had was unlike any other working environment. He enjoyed going to work everyday until he retired again in 2017.

He and Vera enjoyed traveling and hit their goal of reaching all 50 states in 2015.  They also loved exploring nooks and crannies of their beloved Kansas City.

The real highlights of Randy’s life, though, came on June 30, 1972, and April 15, 1975, when his sons Ryan and Brett were born.  He was so very proud of both sons and all they have accomplished.  He loved watching them play many sports and would never miss a game.

Randy was a giver.   He loved helping people…not for any personal gain but just because that was who he was.  He treated Vera like a queen and always put her first.

Randy fought his short battle with cancer with typical determination, strength and hope. His devastating loss will be felt by those who knew him well for a long, long time.  He is survived by his wife Vera, sons Ryan  McPike (Omaha, NE) and Brett McPike (Erica) Parkville, MO; brother Jim McPike (Beth) Independence, MO; sister Lynn Sloan (Jerry) Holden, MO; and sister-in-law Karen McPike (Leavenworth, KS) along with many inlaws, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Funeral will be on Friday, Dec. 21st with visitation at 10:00 AM and funeral at 11:30 AM at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th Street (Shoal Creek Pkwy), Kansas City, Mo.  64155.
