Peter Harry Cook, 69, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away at his home, Monday, March 27, 2017, surrounded by family. Pete was born on August 5, 1947, to Cecil and Elisabeth (Konradi) Cook in Osceola, Iowa. After graduating from East Union Community School in 1965, he enlisted in the US Army, 25th Infantry Division, and served his country from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam War, where he received the Bronze Star. After the war he went to work as a brakeman and then as a conductor for the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad until he retired in 2008. On September 16, 1972, he married Dorothy Gilliland, his wife of 44 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working on his model train set, and watching westerns, football and baseball. He also liked to travel with his son Robert to different baseball stadiums around the United States, and telling everyone about his beloved state of Iowa. After retirement, he especially loved any time he could spend with granddaughter Paige.
He was preceded in death by both parents, and Dempsey his cat.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of the home; his daughter Jennifer Cook of Kansas City, MO; his son, Robert (Carissa) Cook of Kansas City, MO, and granddaughter Paige. Also surviving are his sister Karen (Larry) Weis of Afton, IA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim (Kay) Gilliland of Platte City, MO, many nieces and nephews, and Codi his cat.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with services immediately following at 2:00 PM at Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO.
