Paul Lamp

Paul Edward Lamp died on August 3, 2014 at NorthCare Hospice House.
He was born in Livingston County, Missouri, on July 19, 1926 to Stirl and Gertie Lamp. He graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1944. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II, and in the Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1953, he married Norma Greeley and they lived in Kansas City for 61 years. He retired from Ford Motor Company after working 28 years as a scheduling supervisor.
Paul authored a semi-autobiographical novel, “The Two Faces of Paul (Or Why I Volunteered For The Merchant Marine)” which was published on his 80th birthday.
He was a member of Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church for 49 years. He served the church in many areas and started programs and events which continue today, including the monthly soup kitchen service, annual golf tournament, and aluminum can recycling program. He was also a member of the American Legion, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks-Northland Lodge 2376.
Paul enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing golf, poker and pitch, fishing and traveling.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Harold Lamp and Carl Lamp, and sister Mary Smith. He is survived by his wife, Norma Lamp; two daughters, Sue (Bob) Abernathy and Sandra (Ken) Nelson; four granddaughters, Lauren (Brian) Cody, Hannah (Brandon) Cody, Amy Nelson and Mackenzie Nelson; three great-grandchildren, Charlotte Cody, Jackson Cody, and Victoria Cody; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, August 8, 6-8 p.m. at Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church, 7600 N.W. Barry Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64153. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the church, followed by internment at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, or NorthCare Hospice.
