Norman R. Welty, 64, died on December 22, 2019 comfortably at his home after a short battle with cancer.
Norman Richard Welty was born on September 17, 1955 in Waco, Texas, the son of Leland Richard and Beverly Jean (Jensen) Welty.
Norman graduated from Oak Park High School in the class of 1974. He was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, Firebuilder Little Distant Shining Moon.
Norman is a United States Air Force veteran. He entered the delayed enlistment program in April 1974, entered active duty on Sept 5, 1974 and was honorably discharged on August 26, 1977.
Norman “Lived to Ride” and give back to others. While in the Air Force, he learned of his classification of being a universal blood donor, this began his life’s mission to give back. He donated over 25 gallons of blood and platelets from 1974 to 2019. Norman found a way to turn his passion for riding his Harley into helping others, he rode for Bikers with a Mission (BWAM) on the City Union Mission Run from 1995 to 2019. He was also an avid music lover, he played guitar for the band Kodiak and sought out the best Beatles tribute bands. In his free time, you could find Norman hitting the road to Sturgis with his friends or cheering on his grandkids at ball games.
Norman is survived by his mother, Beverly Welty, Gladstone, longtime girlfriend, Paula Beemer, Kansas City, two children Alan (Jen) Welty, Liberty, and Sarah (Lane) Kemp, Gladstone, his two beloved grandchildren Nora and Jude Welty, his brother, Jim Welty, Olathe, and two sisters, Carol (Mike) Poland, Weston, and Kimberly Brixey, Springfield, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leland R. Welty, his brother, Mitchel L. Welty, his brother-in-law Michael T Brixey, and his grandparents Thorvald and Helen Jensen, Dorothy A. Welty, and Richard B. Welty.
Services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 at Terrace Park Chapel, 801 NW 108th St, Kansas City, MO 64155. Visitation will be 10am-11:30am, Memorial services including a Mic-O-Say Ceremony will begin at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Terrace Park Cemetery.
