Norma Lightfoot

May 18, 1937 — October 13, 2013

Norma Lee Lightfoot was born May 18th, 1937 in Triplett, MO, the fourth of five children to Charles William "Bill" and Elizabeth Rosalie "Rose" (Gates) Spencer.  Norma was a fun-loving and adventurous girl. Her first job at age 16 was for Stamper Foods in Marshall, MO; she still has the knife she used there. In 1955 she graduated from High School and then in November Norma (and her future husband Billie) both graduated from the National School of Aeronautics. 1956 she moved to KC and worked for Hallmark Cards. She could have worked for the airlines anywhere in the world. Instead, she followed love and on August 5th, 1956 she married Billie Lightfoot of Hale, Missouri. They moved to Chicago, IL where Billie started his career with Delta Airlines. In Chicago Norma found a position working with A&P bakery until Billie was transferred to St. Louis in 1961. To move even closer to family, they transferred to Kansas City, MO in 1964. Having a great love for children, Norma operated an in-home daycare service. Even before having children of her own, Norma displayed a heartfelt love for every child in her care.  Norma is survived by her husband, Billie; two brothers, Ralph and JW Spencer.  She is also survived by two daughters, Cherie Peters and Lori LeMunyon.  Cherie and her husband, Jerry Peters, Jr. of Owenton, KY, grandson Joshua, Kristen, Hannah Peters of KC, MO, granddaughter Chelsea and James Yeich of MD.  Lori and her husband, Dan LeMunyon of Kansas City, MO, grandchildren Sara, Zachary, Sadie and Zane. Norma was a faithful servant of Christ and a wonderful mother and grandmother. Norma adored her family and attended many events for her grandchildren; she was their biggest fan. Norma never met a stranger and loved being around people. She always had a smile and was eager to share her faith in Jesus Christ. She volunteered for numerous organizations including the Red Cross of KC, YouthFriends, and Northland Cathedral Servant Evangelism.  She made wonderful sugar cookies and baked many cookies for the firemen and police officers of KC Northland to thank them for their service to our community.  She hosted numerous international students for family dinners and Easter egg hunts; but most importantly, she shared her faith in Jesus Christ with them.  Siqi Xhou is her current student from China, and Norma loved her as much as her own daughters.  Norma will be missed by many people; and leaves behind a legacy of friendship, hospitality, and faithfulness that cannot be matched by many.  Norma left this world on October 13th, 2013 and is safely in the arms of Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior.
