Myrle Eugene “Gene” Kemerling, age 89, formerly of Riverside and Waverly, MO, died Saturday, June 25, 2022 at McCrite Plaza at Briarcliff.
Gene was born on Sep. 6, 1932 to Clay Myrle and Alice Lucille (Hill) Kemerling near Tarkio, MO. He married Grace Marie Ware on March 22, 1952 in Waverly, MO. The couple lived in Waverly until 1988, when they moved to Riverside, MO.
Gene grew up on a farm, and worked on a farm after graduation from Tarkio High School. He also owned a trucking company and a sand company. He was a licensed towboat operator, crane operator, and heavy equipment mechanic during his lifetime. He was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local #101. He also built a house, and was able to figure out how to do pretty much anything that needed to be done.
After retirement, Gene and Grace enjoyed traveling with family, their camping club, or just by themselves. They enjoyed their warm Texas winters.
Gene is survived by his four children: Donald, Overland Park, KS, Connie Plattner (Daryl), Marshall, MO, Steve, Liberty, MO, and Brian (Jeanette), Lewis Center, OH. He also leaves his grandchildren who he loved with all his heart: Julie Plattner, Suzie Plattner, Aaron Brecht, Ashley (Mike) Hempy, and D. J. Brecht, and his great-grandchildren, who he loved with all his heart, Mallorie, Jaysen, and Gabriella Hempy. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Harmon, and a brother, Alan Kemerling.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years on March 5, 2022, his parents, and his brothers Richard Kemerling and Stanley Kemerling.
Gene will be interred next to Grace at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery.
