Myrl Ira Helton, JR. of Lawrence, KS went home to be with the Lord on August 13, 2020.
Myrl was born on August 5, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to Myrl Sr. and Lucille (Horan) Helton. He has spent the last 28 years with his love, Linda. After 10 years of courtship and trying to decide if they wanted to be married, the two were finally married on June 7, 2002. This perfect pair was brought together at a special church event and the rest is history. Linda will forever miss her gentle giant.
Food, fitness, flying, and flowers are the 4-F’s from Myrl’s life. He couldn’t pick one food as his favorite, so if you asked him; his favorite was, “all of it.” He had a love for flying and was once a corporate pilot. With no success; he tried to convince Linda to fly with him. She kindly declined each time. Myrl loved flowers and gardening, with sunflowers being his favorite. His love for the state of Kansas sparked his love of the sunflower.
Myrl graduated high school in 1962 from Arlington High in Arlington, TX. He went on to receive an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Radiology from Penn Valley, Kansas City, MO. Throughout his life, Myrl was a pilot and a regional sales manager for Armor and Company, a foreman for General Motors, and most recently was the owner and operator of Helton’s Car Wash. He started the car wash in 1979 and remained there until retiring in 1990. Myrl was also in the US Army Reserve from 1967 to 1971. He was a true Patriot.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda of Lawrence, KS; daughter Kymberly and Scott Scantlin of Kansas City, MO; son Brad and Misti Helton of Grove, OK and children AJ, Ty, Mia and Blaike; grandson Skyler and Natalie Helton of Chicago IL; step son Clint and Cecily Breithaupt of Olathe, KS and children Zach and Mayte; step-daughter Lisa and Kevin Jones of Lawrence, KS. and children Delaney and JT; step-daughter Lori and Hayden Fowler of Lawrence, KS and children Mason and Madison (great grandson Wyatt); brother Mark and Maria Helton of Kansas City, MO; sister Mary Ellen Berg of Kansas City, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his Son, Shawn Helton and one sister Betty Wooldridge.
