Mildred “Lorene” Woody, 51 of Raytown, MO passed away on November 16, 2017. She was born in Kansas City, MO on July 15, 1966 to Harold Tunis and Rosemary Bryant Trombly. She grew up in the Pleasant Hill area and graduated from Belton High School in 1984. Lorene worked for the United States Postal Service Processing and Distributing Center for thirty one years and spent time working at the Longview Station. She enjoyed her job at the post office because she was able to meet so many people and developed longstanding friendships. She was proud to be a part of the USPS family.
Lorene had a strong faith and was a long-time member of Calvary Assemby of God Church. For several years, she took an active part in organizing and coordinating the Church’s contributions to Harvesters. When Lorene was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2015, she renewed her faith and never questioned God’s will. She fought the disease with all she had, with humor, dignity and God’s grace.
Lorene loved life, people and all things simple. She was perfectly content to piddle around her house, figuring out her next DIY project, sitting on her deck with friends and family, or digging around in her garden. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family, just hanging out, grilling or watching the Chiefs, Royals or NASCAR.
Lorene loved the jalepenos from the garden she and Bill planted every year, and especially loved them on tacos. She loved Elvis, she loved watching movies and having small talk with her girls and she loved visiting with her mother, sisters and brothers. She always made a point to ask her neices and nephews what was going on in their lives whenever she saw them. When Noah, her first grandchild was born, she was beside herself. When Noah was in the house, no one else mattered, she’d be right there on the floor playing with him. They were buddies.
Lorene is survived by her husband of 21 years, Bill Woody, her daughters Tara Richardson, and Jennifer Bailey (Sean Bailey), her companion and dog, Oscar (“Hotdawg”), her mother, Rosemary Trombly, sisters Venus Domerese and Amy Mattox (Steve), brothers Harold Carrier (Tara) and Charles Carrier (Jackie), sisters in law Shana Grandgenett (Mike) and Susan Edwards (Mike), and her grandson Noah Bailey along with many nieces and nephews, who was the light of her life. Lorene was preceeded in death by her father, Harold Tunis, grandparents Harvey Leeland and Mildred Lucille Miller Bryant, grandparents Charles Almon and Juanita Lorene Sidebottom Tunis and father-in-law Jerry Woody.
