Melvin was an Army veteran in the air cavalry division, and was a part time farmer with his brother, Jerry. He was a general foreman at the GM Fairfax plant retiring in 1990 after 28 years of service. He enjoyed his grandchildren and cutting wood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, daughter, Kelly, and brother, Jerry. Survivors include his son, Kevin Winters, and wife, Carol, 2 grandchildren, Allison Winters, Ian Winters, and wife, Jennifer, and companion, Patsy Roach.
