MELVIN LEE FOXWORTHY
Melvin Lee Foxworthy passed away peacefully with family by his side at the age of 76 years, 11 months, 18 days on Sept. 22, 2015 after battling cancer for five years. Lee was born on Oct. 4, 1938 to Virgil and Pansy Foxworthy in Eads, CO. He grew up with a love of “gypsy life” as the eldest son of an oil rig worker, moving more than 20 times before graduating high school in Montana.
After graduation, Lee enrolled in mechanical engineering at the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. He briefly left school to complete his Army obligation with his brother in Fort Leonard Wood.
Upon returning to CU, Lee met Karen Collins and together they danced and fell in love. Ten days before graduating from CU they married in Arvada, CO on June 5, 1961. Returning to his gypsy ways, he and Karen moved after his graduation. Starting in Pasadena, CA, his work as a mechanical engineer led him later to Texas, and finally to Kansas City, MO in 1980 where they lived until his retirement in 2005. As a Project Manager, his career took him to Italy, France, Qatar, Yugoslavia, Equatorial Guinea, Australia, and many others.
Lee enjoyed working on projects. He was an avid card player, wood and metal worker, and videographer. Most of all, Lee loved his wife, Karen, daughters Deanne (Jeff Kallenbach), Sheila (Jeff King), son Brian (Jaci), and being Papa to Ryan, Hannah, Abby, Emily and Laura Kallenbach, Jessica Krause, Samantha Allen, Brandon King, Morgan, Ty and Devin Foxworthy, and 3 great granddaughters, Ashlyn, Lincoln and Blaklee.
