Mary L. Stewart, born on September 1, 1931, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024. She led a life full of purpose and devotion, marked by her fierce independence and tender care for her family.

Mary Lou enjoyed a fruitful career as a hostess in the restaurant industry, where her friendly demeanor made a lasting impression on many. A graduate of high school in Turon, Kansas, she furthered her education at Hutchinson Kansas Junior College, earning her Associate’s degree.

For 29 years, Mary Lou was married to Donald Stewart, who preceded her in death. Together, they raised three children, building a strong foundation of love and faith. She was an endearing mother, always ensuring that every family gathering was cherished and that the birthdays of her loved ones were celebrated. Her delicious cinnamon bread became a treasured favorite among her family.

Mary Lou was a woman of great faith, a member of North Cross United Methodist Church since 1967. She not only participated in church activities but also shared her joyous voice as a member of the church choir, accompanying her friends on two memorable trips to Europe.

Her legacy will not only remain in the hearts of her children but also in the lives she touched throughout her life.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Edna Updike; and her husband, Donald Stewart.

She is survived by her children; Dale (Lynda) Stewart, Jim (Janet) Stewart, Peggy (Steve) Lindsay; her sister Karlene Winters: and brother, Gary (Joan) Updike; grandchildren; Carl (Anna) Stewart, Matt (Allison) Stewart, Jessie (Casey) McNellis, Heather (Chadd) Johnson, Chris (Lane) Stewart, Danny (Kate) Lindsay, Stefanie (Anthony) Caravella, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at North Cross United Methodist Church located at 1321 NE Vivion Road Kansas City, Missouri. Tuesday, December 31, 2024, family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM., with a Funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. The family has requested a private family burial. In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to the Alzheimers Association http://act.alz.org>donate, and the North Cross Choir of North Cross United Methodist Church.
