Mary Lamp

September 12, 1925 — March 29, 2018

Mary Katherine Lamp, of Kansas City, Missouri, died on March 29, 2018. She was born September 12, 1925 in Monroe County, Missouri, the daughter of Leslie and Hattie (Jacobs) Farrell.  She attended Kirtley Grade School and Madison High School in Madison, Missouri, graduating in 1942. After graduation, she and her mother moved to Chillicothe, Missouri, where she attended Chillicothe Business College.  She worked for B.R. Harris & Co. from 1943 to 1950.

She married William Harold Lamp on October 16, 1949. They moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, where Mary K. worked for the Finance and Accounting Division, Dept. of Army, Ft. Leavenworth, in various accounting positions from 1951 until her retirement in 1973.  Mary K. was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Leavenworth, where she sang in the choir.  She also was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, serving as treasurer for 18 years.  She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

With her husband, Mary K. enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, especially roses, and sharing them with friends and special events at her church. Her homemade rolls, cheesecake topped with homegrown strawberries, and apple pies made with apples from their orchard were favorites among family and friends.  She moved to Kansas City in 2010.

Mary K. was preceded in death by a baby brother, Melvin Eugene, in 1912, her father in 1926, her mother in 1962, and her husband in 1996. Left to cherish special memories of this kindhearted and gracious lady who spent her lifetime giving so much to others are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A graveside service will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Chillicothe, Missouri at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 8.  Mary K. established a fund to assist students with the cost of continuing their education after high school. To honor her generous spirit, in lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the “Mary K. Lamp Scholarship Fund” at First Christian Church, 130 N. 6th Street, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
